Now's Your Chance - Jaguar XJR-15 For Sale
It’s not everyday that one of these beauties comes up for sale! Yes, it is a Jaguar XJR-15 and our knickers are well and truly in a twist.
So, for those who don’t know why we’re sitting uncomfortably. The XJR-15 was the road going car based on the XJ9. The Le Mans winning Jaguar of 1988. It was built by a mythical company called Jaguar Sport… more about that.Jaguar Sport was a joint partnership between the legendary bad-ass that was Tom Walkinshaw and Jaguar Cars. Walkinshaw had come up with the idea for XJR-15 in 1988 after seeing the proposed XJ220, and thinking the XJ9 needed a road going sibling.
Now, they say based on. The XJR-15 is actually 75mm wider and 40mm taller than an XJ9. It was conceived to be a modern approach to the C Type or the Ferrari 250GTO, a true road going racer.
The XJR-15 did have the 6 litre naturally aspirated V12 though. The car also had advanced electronic fuel injection and a very early iteration of fly by wire throttle. The gearbox, was very much like the race car. The unsynchronised 6 speed manual had little to no manners. But, if you asked nicely (Walkinshaw liked you) you could pay to have a more palatable gearbox fitted.
The XJR-15’s chassis and bodywork were made entirely of Carbon Fibre. Yes, 1991 is before 1994 (the release of the McLaren F1 which many believe was the first all carbon car).
When put to the test, an XJR-15 would do 0-62MPH in 3.9 seconds and because of the gearing, would top out at 191MPH. Oh yeah, there was an incredible one-make racing series… go check it out.
This particular car, is for private sale from @rmsothebys. So go and find the spare £1.5m you’ve got hidden down the back of the sofa…
