Becoming a Reality - DeTomaso P72 Enters Development

 Possibly the only Hypercar we are excited about coming out. The rebirth of a legendary name and an iconic project. The stunning @detomaso_official P72 is one step closer to being a reality.

The chaps over at DeTomaso have partnered with Capricorn Group to bring this stunning project to reality. Capricorn are of course the legendary German chassis and composite specialists who have lord knows how many Le Mans, WRC, DTM and even MotoGP wins to their name. So, it’s a perfect partnership in the original spirit of the 1960s and 70s DeTomaso projects.

Capricorn took the original P72 project and worked on how to make it work and how to make it handle. They have developed a Carbon Fibre cell for P72 that far exceeds the FIA homologation requirements and at the same have completely revamped the geometry of the suspension for the car to truly perform on the world stage. They have also managed to create more interior space as a byproduct. But, Capricorn have also been consulting DeTomaso on an even bigger project.

A purpose-built research and development centre with its own in-house production workshops based a stones throw from the legendary Nurburgring. The facility will be a joint venture between DeTomaso and Capricorn Group, the latter taking over from the development work on the Nordschleife.

Originally, P72 was going to carry on where history left off. The original project from the 1960s was destined to be built in the US, just like P72. But, with joining forces with such legendary engineers as Capricorn, the decision was made to move the whole show to Germany.

However, the American connection is still there. The P72 according to source still has its @roushperformanceSupercharged @ford V8. And, will be built by hand. Not by robots, but by hand. That’s how they can ensure the highest level of finish and the craftsmanship that only comes from hand crafting something. Capricorn’s involvement means that DeTomaso estimates the first cars will be delivered in the first 6 months of 2023.
